A Stochastic Analytical Modelling Framework on ISP-P2P Collaborations in Multi-domain Environments

چکیده
Cooperation between peer-to-peer (P2P) overlays and underlying networks has been proposed as an effective approach to improve the efficiency of both the applications and the underlying networks. However, fundamental characteristics with respect to ISP business relationships and inter-ISP routing information are not sufficiently investigated in the context of collaborative ISP-P2P paradigms in multi-domain environments. In this paper, we focus on such issues and develop an analytical modelling framework for analysing optimized inter-domain peer selection schemes concerning ISP policies, with the main purpose of mitigating cross-ISP traffic and enhancing service quality of end users. In addition, we introduce an advanced hybrid scheme for peer selections based on the proposed analytical theory framework, in accordance with practical network scenarios, wherein cooperative and non-cooperative behaviours coexisting. Numerical results show that the proposed scheme incorporating ISP policies is able to achieve desirable network efficiency as well as great service quality for P2P users. Our analytical modelling framework can be used as a guide for analysing and evaluating future network-aware P2P peer selection paradigms in general multi-domain scenarios.

A modeling framework to understand the tussle between ISPs and peer-to-peer file-sharing users
Recent measurement studies have shown that traffic generated by peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing applications has started to dominate the bandwidth consumption on Internet access links. The prevailing use of P2P applications carries with it significant implications for Internet Service Providers (ISPs): on the one hand increased levels of P2P traffic result in additional costs for an ISP, which ...
متن کاملOn Minimizing Average End-to-End Delay in P2P Live Streaming Systems
Peer-to-peer (P2P) live streaming provides a scalable solution to the distribution of multimedia content. However, existing streaming applications are plagued by the problem of long playback latency, which discourages commercial IPTV deployment from the ISP end. Moreover, ISP may provide viewers with diverse service options with different video quality, such as 720HD and 1080HD. Obtaining assur...
متن کاملTowards a universal friendly peer-to-peer media streaming: metrics, analysis and explorations
Peer-to-peer (P2P) paradigm has provided a disruptive market opportunity to define cost-effective multimedia streaming services, but at the same time network-oblivious P2P applications have been posing substantial technical and social challenges on network efficiency, operator economics and user performance. While end users are concerned with quality upgrade, Internet content provider (ICP) con...
متن کاملP2P Secure Collaboration between Byzantine Processes in Heterogeneous distributed – Processing Systems
The www and related technologies have made multi domain collaborations a reality. Collaborations enable processes to effectively share resources; it introduces several security and privacy challenges. Managing security and efficient exchange of information is even more challenging. In this paper, we propose a distributed secure frame work between Byzantine processes (nodes) in order to predict ...
متن کاملTowards an Epistemology of Intelligent Design and Modelling Environments: The Hypothesis Testing Approach
The main purpose of Intelligent Design and Modelling Environments is to offer students the opportunity to acquire knowledge while working on a sequence of given or self-selected problems chosen from the application domain. Earlier, we developed intelligent problem solving environments (IPSEs, Möbus, 1995) for various curricula and applications. Now we extend this approach to intelligent design ...
